Hundreds of marijuana plants seized in northwest Ventura County

Do you know what to do if you see something bad happening? Here are some tips.

Authorities seized hundreds of illegally grown marijuana plants along with unregistered firearms Thursday at a rural residence near Ventucopa, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported.

On Thursday morning, detectives and deputies executed a search warrant for a suspected illegal cultivation operation in the 6700 block of Quatal Canyon Road, authorities said. The site is in a remote part of northwest Ventura County, east of a section of Highway 33 lined by agricultural fields, near the line with neighboring Santa Barbara County.

The search warrant was issued after deputies with the sheriff’s Lockwood Valley station investigated reports of a sizeable illegal marijuana grow at the location, officials said.

Authorities allegedly found marijuana being grown in five separate outdoor structures on the property. They seized 575 plants, 356 pounds of processed marijuana and $13,000 cash believed to be proceeds of drug sales. Deputies also confiscated several unregistered firearms, including an AR-15 rifle classified as an assault weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

The owner of the operation was identified as Kevin Hagar, 38, who reportedly lives on the property. Hagar was arrested on suspicion of unlawful planting and possession violations, conspiracy and possession of an assault weapon, officials said. He was booked into Ventura County jail and later released on a bail bond.
