There are currently nine applications before the province’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario looking for licences to open legal cannabis stores in Guelph.
The nine locations looking to set up shop in Guelph are:
Cannabis Supply Co., 206 Speedvale Ave. W.
Fire & Flower Cannabis Co., 314 Stone Rd. W.
Meta Cannabis Co., 3 Woodlawn Rd. W
The Cannabist Shop, 739 Woolwich St.
Friendly Stranger South Guelph, 5 Clair Rd. W. Unit 1
The Cannabist Shop, 166 Wyndham St. N.
Q-Bud, 128 Wyndham St. N.
Spiritleaf Guelph, 492 Edinburgh Rd. S. Unit B2B
Bud’s Cannabis Store, 370 Stone Rd. W.
The Cannabist Shop at 739 Woolwich St., has seen the most opposition to date. The location, most recently a flower shop and small greenhouse, is located immediately beside what is to be a large youth mental health hub.
The applicant previously argued that a legal cannabis store would be no less inappropriate than the Beer Store located across the street.
The Cannabist Shop proposal for Woolwich Street needs a minor variance from the city’s Committee of Adjustment in order to open. They will appear before the committee on June 11.
It was deferred from a previous Committee of Adjustment hearing earlier this year when the committee was unable to reach a majority vote on the application.
That location, plus a second The Cannabist Shop location proposed for Wyndham Street are currently posted for public comment on the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s web site. That public opportunity for comment closes June 3.
Public comment on Bud’s Cannabis Store on Stone Road ends Saturday.
The other six proposed locations for Guelph are considered “in progress” on the AGCO web site and are not currently accepting public comment.
