WHATELY — Town officials have approved the request of a local medical marijuana company to hold a remote community outreach meeting regarding a proposed cultivation site on River Road.
The site at 7 River Road, which totals 45,000 square feet, would be used for both outdoor and indoor cultivation of cannabis, according to Jared Glanzberger of Debilitating Medical Condition Treatment Centers Inc.
The company appeared before the Selectboard last week to request approval to hold a community outreach meeting, a required step before submitting a licence application to the state Cannabis Control Commission.
Glanzberger said the company aims to hold the meeting at the end of May. The meeting will be held remotely, per recently adopted regulations by the Cannabis Control Commission that allow for remote meetings during the COVID-19 state of emergency.
Notice will be sent out to abutters within 300 feet of the site and all relevant town government bodies, and a public notice will be printed and posted publicly a week before the meeting date.
Town Administrator Brian Domina noted that social distancing measures restrict interested parties’ ability to tour the site. He asked the company’s representatives if it would be possible to offer something similar in advance of the meeting.
“We spoke with the lessor to make time for town leadership to come by and walk the property, and they said they would make time available relative to when the community outreach meeting was,” Glanzberger said, adding that a process for allotting times for residents to tour the site could be arranged.
The meeting would be moderated by a third-party individual, which the company has yet to confirm.
